The California Middle Grades Alliance (CMGA) is pleased to celebrate district governance leaders who are providing outstanding support for middle grades education. This year’s honorees include the school boards and superintendents of newly designated and redesignated California Schools to Watch.


The mission of the California Middle Grades Alliance is to support high quality middle grades education designed to close the achievement gap and ensure success for all students.


CMGA member organizations include: Association of California School Administrators, Advancement Via Individual Determination, California Department of Education, California GEAR UP, California Latino School Boards Association, California League of Educators, California School Boards Association, California Schools to Watch™—Taking Center Stage, California State Parent Teacher Association, California Teachers Association

Information for District Leaders

Please register for the California Schools to Watch District Leadership Celebration by January 31st. There is no cost to attend.


In addition to Thursday’s leadership celebration, we also invite you to join us for the following events taking place on Friday and Saturday.


These California Schools to Watch activities offer a great opportunity for you to bring your board and cabinet, enjoy the spotlight, connect with other leaders, and leave feeling rejuvenated!

Optional Activities:

  1. Morning of Friday, March 8, 2024: Your Schools to Watch team will be celebrated on-stage before the general session at the CLE Annual Conference. You are encouraged to stay Thursday night and cheer for your team! Hotel Information.
     

  2. Afternoon of Friday, March 8, 2024: District administrators are invited to participate in the Education Innovation Hub. This event pairs you with education industry professionals seeking your advice and insights. Lunch is provided. Sign up for the Hub today – a limited number of spaces are available!
     

  3. Friday, March 8, 2024, and Saturday, March 9, 2024: If you want to see the general sessions and discover great programs shared by other Schools to Watch from across the state, you can also register to attend the CLE Annual Conference.

New Schools to Watch Information for Principals

  1. Schools to Watch District Leadership Celebration Day
    This celebration on March 7th honors the superintendents and boards of education of districts with newly designated and redesignated Schools to Watch. Your superintendent has been sent information on registering for the District Leadership Celebration Day.

    You are also welcome to attend (see conference registration below). The celebration will run from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, followed by a reception and photo opportunity. Please be sure your superintendent has received the invitation so they can register online today.
     

  2. Schools to Watch Award Ceremony
    Your team will be celebrated on-stage before the general session at the CLE Annual Conference on Friday morning, March 8th. Please see registration information below (#5).
     

  3. Workshop Session
    As a new School to Watch, you will present a 45-minute session on a replicable program or strategy either Friday, March 8, or Saturday, March 9. Please submit your session by January 31, 2024.
     

  4. School Profile and Image
    Your site will have a Schools to Watch Profile. By January 31, 2024, please fill out the STW School Profile form. You will be asked to upload a high-resolution photo of the front of your school with your school name visible if possible. Please name it “[SchoolName]STW2024Pic.”
     

  5. Registration and Hotel Rooms

    • Registration: As the principal of a new School to Watch, you get free and automatic conference registration and the District Leadership Celebration Day. Please do not register yourself for either event.

    • As a School to Watch, please bring at least two additional members of your team. Please register your team members by January 31st to receive the best possible rate.

Redesignating Schools to Watch Information for Principals

    There are a limited number of sessions available, so the selection process will be competitive. Please submit a 45-minute presentation on a replicable program or strategy. Sessions take place Friday, March 8, and Saturday,
    March 9. Please submit your session no later than January 31, 2024.​
